KHAO ROP – Sarah Bates

We’re really excited to be able to share the amazing KHAO ROP from Sarah Bates in the the February version of the Chill Out Tent, it’s Edition #11and it happening this Sunday 28/2/21 at 18:00 GMT. A hallucinatory film, blending Sarah’s music and video work into an immersive journey, it’s not available on line so make sure you join us on Sunday!

‘Thailand is Sarah’s spiritual home. Just before the bug hit, Sarah & her daughter spent months in the jungle over there; she returned to a very different world but was still full of the sun.

Suddenly locked down in her house, Sarah escaped into the hours of video she’d shot while away, working non-stop on assembling a staggering moving collage that’s as far removed from a set of holiday snaps as you could possibly imagine.

With her music production rig set up next to her video workstation, she composed an entirely new soundtrack to match the film – nine classic Sarah Bates moody melters – and after many months of ridiculously hard work, KHAO ROP is now ready for you to discover.

Put simply, it’s an alternate reality that you can disappear into. You will be consumed by this film. There are many meanings to be discovered in it, or u can just blaze one and let it roll over you.’

Sally Rodgers – The Chill Out Tent Playlist

Balearic icon and friend of the Chill Out Tent, Sally Rodgers (A Man Called Adam) has been kind enough to curate the latest addition to our archive of Spotify playlists, and it’s a beauty!

Life Like it’s Golden – A Playlist by Sally Rodgers

‘I had no particular theme in mind when I started putting my playlist together for The Chill Out Tent but it seems to have decided on one for me!  It’s definitely got the sort of spiritual, space jazz and ambient vibe of my younger days with a few killer vocal cuts like Madlib, David Walters and Jill Scott. I’m trying very hard to live my ‘life like it’s golden’ (it’s not easy right now) and this is a  playlist I put together quite instinctively, and that includes so many inspirational musicians and artists whose music really resonates with me (Alice Coltrane, Arthur Russell etc.), and who help me to connect with my deeper self – help me dig up that gold and keep going’.

Wisdom Eye – Alice Coltrane

Desert Nights – Lonnie Liston Smith and The Cosmic Echoes

Road of The Lonely Ones – Madlib

The Sensual woman – The Herbaliser

Utopia and Visions – Don Cherry, Tommy Koverhult, Tommy Goldman, Maffy Falay, Tage Siven, Okay Temiz

Cosa Nova – A Man Called Adam

Soon to be innocent fun – Arthur Russell

Doing That Thing – Les McCann

Compared to What (Live) – Eddie Harris, Les McCann

Moon 7 – A Man Called Adam

Om Supreme – Alice Coltrane

Paseo – Blundetto

Remind Me – A Man Called Adam

Sea – Young Marco remix – Roosevelt , Young Marco

Sure the sun will rise – Hugo Kant

The Justified Ancients of Mu Mu – Come Down Dawn (Full Chapter)

Newsflash! – The return of the KLF continues with the appearance of ‘Come Down Dawn’ online today – ‘The album features reinterpretation of the KLF’s 1990 album Chill Out.’ It’s a reboot of the seminal Chill Out album with the copyrighted samples of Elvis and Acker Bilk (and many more) removed from the mix, still sounding good thirty years on from it’s original release.

Eddie Chacon & John Carroll-Kirby x the Chill Out Tent

This Sunday’s Edition #10 of the Chill Out Tent features a set from respected singer songwriter Eddie Chacon and producer / keyboard player John Carroll-Kirby. The pair collaborated on Chacon’s ‘Pleasure, Joy and Happiness’ album, his comeback release after many years away from the music business, “What a rare and cool challenge it was for me to help Eddie re-emerge after a long hiatus,” says Carroll Kirby. “I was excited to produce a record for him that captured the chill, laid-back wisdom and easy vocal mastery he has that you don’t see that much these days.” The success of the album and the redemption of it’s warm reception are not lost on singer – “I was moved to tears. Honestly. Up until that point, I didn’t feel I’d ever done anything real or great in my life. I finally felt like I’d done something good.”

It’s a beautiful album of rare charm and delicacy and one of our favourites here at the Chill Out Tent. Huge thanks to Eddie and John for letting us share their session with the Chill Out Tent community.
