Sometimes you just know an album will be with you for life and that’s how it feels after repeat listens of Kwashibu Area Band’s Love Warrior’s Anthem. The Band are best known as the musical partners of Ghanaian legend Pat Thomas but here on their own they have created a modern masterpiece that blends their signature highlife with reggae and dub textures. Fans of Khruangbin will love this.
Melbourne-based Surprise Chef continue in a similar instrumental vein but with added 70s funk soundtrack vibes.
Compilation of the month ‘Archipelago – Cosmic Gems from France 1978-1988’ comes from label Isle of Jura, which has enlisted French digger and DJ Arnaud Simetiére aka Switch Groove to compile an absolute beauty of obscure Frenchness, which defies simple categorisation. It’s just really groovy and plain weird – in a ‘WTF was that?!’ good way.
